Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are supporting a first grade class in our school who have lost their classroom to a fire. As a class community, we have decided to donate a bean bag to help them have a comfy spot in their class.

Our students are learning the meaning of caring for others by doing this kind act.

Students in this class have learned to say kind words and show caring actions. They have learned that instead of getting a present for themselves, they would feel great giving a present to others. They chose the chair themselves as what they wanted to give.

My Project

The students in my class being able to donate a bean bag chair would allow them to understand deep generosity. Students are working on learning about social and emotional needs. They are learning to understand their feelings and to talk about them. One feeling students are learning about is the ability to have empathy. The goal for my students is to understand this by giving to a class who lost everything. The students who receive the bean bag will have a safe and comfortable space in the classroom to learn or relax. The bean bag chair and the flex cushion will allow students to learn in a way that helps their body.

They will feel proud of their ability to understand what a class may need and want and to be able to give it to them.

The students are learning about empathy. Although our classroom was unusable for a few days, the materials were left unharmed. The students expressed empathy for their peers. They were interested in showing they care by giving something that they themselves would want. They also want to give sensory materials such as shapes that have a gel to squeeze and hold onto when learning and a new seat for the floor (flexible wobble cushion) for students in the class who may need more support when learning.
