My Students

My students learn best with hands-on experiments and first-hand look at things. They have a great enthusiasm for learning math and science and this school year i will be teaching ELA and Social Studies as well. We are from a Title I school. My students come to school with an eagerness to learn. I want to grow my students' curiosity to learn by showing them that learning can be fun. Mrs. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus series always said to "take chances, make mistakes, get messy!" and my class does this with hands-on learning and STEAM. My classroom is a fun and inviting place to learn. I have hands-on activities every day. My goal is to introduce students to science in a fun way and inspire students to want to pursue a career in science. I also have a goal to inspire students to have a love of learning for years to come.

My Project

This coming school year I will be teaching third grade. Also at our school we have three special needs classrooms. I have a daughter on the autism spectrum in one of these special needs classes. This year I would like to teach my students about the disabilities that these students have such as autism, Down Syndrome, and ADHD. My goal is for them to learn tolerance and how to accept students like my daughter. In our morning meeting I will read the books listed such as I see things Differently, or My friend has Down Syndrome to help students understand these students.

By teaching tolerance I hope that my students show that they can accept these students as one of them.

To include them when they are at recess, morning walking club, music class, art class, library, or even at lunch. If students learn at a young age about tolerance they can continue this positive thinking through out the rest of their lives. I am hoping to build a classroom full of kind tolerant students that will help change the world one kind act at a time. We as a classroom community need to see the value in our peers and their differences. This will not only help us as a classroom community but also as a school.
