Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher in a high poverty school where my students face many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the obstacles they face, my students enjoy school. School is their safe haven and it's the constant in their life.
Language Arts is difficult for many of my students.
I want to give my students opportunities to increase their reading comprehension and vocabulary skills. One of my goals is to change some students’ negative feelings towards reading. One way I’m working to do this is by spending time reading aloud to my class daily.
My Project
Many of these resources will be used as Interactive Read Alouds with the students in my class. My students are also super excited to read the next book in the HILO series!
My goal is to help empower my students to become avid readers and writers.
By increasing my knowledge about how to motivate my most reluctant students, I am armed with the tools I need to succeed. Many of the items I'm requesting are professional development books for myself that will teach me new tricks to engage my readers. I look forward to growing myself professionally so that I can project that knowledge onto others.
