I am a literacy teacher who works with teachers, special needs students, and general education students to improve literacy skills.
I currently see over 200 students, including students with special needs, English Language Learners, and gifted students.
Almost 93% of our school is considered low-income and receives free or reduced rate lunch. The student body consists of 65% Latino, 30% African American, and 5% Caucasian. They are eager to learn and have a passionate drive to excel. We are always trying to introduce our students to authentic books in order to create life long readers.
The Fountas and Pinnell Reading Minilessons Books will be used during our interactive read aloud and minilessons. These resource books will help our students and teachers spark conversations and discussions to help improve comprehension. Knowing what types of questions to ask while reading will help our students as they work in groups and while they are reading independently. Students will be able to use the skills learned from these resource books through adulthood as they continue to read and grow.
These resource books will help both our students and teachers to think beyond the surface of a text and dig deeper.
These books will give us the tools we need to make our classroom grow. Our students need to be challenged as they progress with their reading, and the resource books will allow us to do that.
