Our students have a variety of disabilities that interfere with their education, which requires specific teaching strategies that allow them to learn based on their strengths.
My students work hard every day to learn and as teachers, we work hard to meet their varied and ever-changing needs which have become even more important (and difficult!) during this Coronavirus outbreak.
Now that we are all back in person, we can start learning again with hands on materials. This is so important for my students who do not learn well from other formats. Our class uses play based center learning which requires a variety of materials.
My Project
I teach special education students in the CARES program. They have highly specific needs resulting from severe disabilities such as autism, medical complications, and behavioral issues. For my students, we have no standard curriculum, but rather it is up to myself as the teacher to locate, develop, or create curriculum materials that help my students learn.
One of the best places for a special education teacher to find resources for professional development is from the amazing sellers on Teacher Pay Teacher, an online website with resources created from teachers across the country.
From TPT, I can acquire items that will help me as a teacher improve my ability to teach literacy to my students. Some of the specific resources that will be purchased with this gift card include task box activities that teach me how to set up task stations for my students, readers theater packages to help bring literacy to my students through play, and assessment and evaluation tools to help me develop my ability to assess and improve the reader ability of my students. Other resources that will improve my teaching include specific reading comprehension programs, and vocabulary programs which assist me in improving my ability to teach my students in these important areas.
Why reinvent the wheel when TPT already as resources created that will help my professional development improve in the area of literacy? Please help me by supporting this project to purchase a TPT gift card.
