Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class this school year is filled with many lively students. There are varying needs, from ones who struggle to focus as a result of ADHD which results in difficulties with reading and math, to those who are visionaries at a young age. We are a Title I, free breakfast and lunch school that houses Head Start, PreK 3 through 4th grade.
We strive to be a community that supports each other and have excitement in what we are learning.
I offer different ways to learn through technology, hands-on centers, a library of books, project creating, and group work.
The students are curious about science. They listen, create, and write about their STEM creations. I also use Mystery Doug on the Internet to allow their curiosity to sprout some wings. Learning about our world and its animals and plants is a focus of my science. We are a busy class with much energy that needs to have outlets!
My Project
Alternative seating has transformed my room. As the kids move while learning, this teacher sees the need for me to transform my area, too.
The rolling standing desk and stool will allow me to tailor and adapt my lessons to where the kids are at in my room.
Using a stationary desk and chair while my students have embraced alternative seating, has become a challenge in my room.
My students are encouraged to find a way to focus and learn. So, I have now challenged myself to find a way to teach that is more inline with their learning styles and choices.
