Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
To be a FANTASTIC teacher, I need to be a student and learn more computing skills than just word processing. We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher's hand. It has become the pen and paper of our time.
I have been a middle school for over 25 years.
When I started teaching, schools did not have computers. Our school has over 550 students who are eager to learn and work hard. I truly enjoy teaching them. I work with English Learners, resource students, highly-gifted students and everything in between! We are active in utilizing technology in our classrooms. The computer can be a powerful resource and I need to increase my fluency. As I learn the power of the computer, I will become a student and recall how joyful learning can be.
My Project
As I become knowledgable about the different aspects of the computer, I hope to use them for online tests, probes, and supplemental programs so that I may quickly assess student understanding to allow for whole class level and an individual intervention. I also plan to utilize my district sponsored classes at www.escwest.net in order to more efficiently serve my students. This should allow me to better facilitate the teaching of the Common Core State Standards with iPads. At http://edtechteacher.org/t21/ipad/ I can also take courses. Finally, I want to be part of online professional development sessions by http://www.thinkahead.co.za/ and http://www.kokuamai.com/test/flipped/.
I may not have the skills yet, but I will get them.
I want to present my students with the 21st century technological skills that are required for them successfully master the Common Core State Standards as well as prepare them to be college and career ready upon high school graduation.
