My Students

I see a variety of speech and language disorders in my classroom. I have students who are non-verbal and learning to communicate, students on the autism spectrum, students who stutter, and students who need general articulation therapy. Each student requires an indivudalized treatment plan to work on their goals.

"Not being able to speak is not the the same as not having anything to say." Communication can be through speech, pictures, or technology and my goal is to help each child find what works for them.

My Project

Cause & Effect toys can be highly desirable to teach non-verbal children to talk. They can be used to develop joint attention, as reinforcers, and to encourage sound development. These toys are essential to get the most out of their speech and language therapy sessions.

Most importantly, these toys teach language development through play.

My students will learn how to request for these highly desired items. They will use the counting pig, ball poppers, light up wand, wind up toys, and Mix It Up book to learn core vocabulary such as: in, push, look, color, and go! They will use the kinetic sand, shape sorter, and dot markers to create and follow directions. They can learn vocabulary such as colors, shapes, and asking for help with these items. They will develop foundational language skills that are necessary for communication and for shaping words.
