This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I want to teach math with a more hands-on approach. But in order to do that, I must have resources to use with my students. Having resources that my students can use and work with will build real world experiences.
I teach math to a very energetic bunch of boys and girls in a neighborhood school that supports and educates its children.
My school receives help from the Title 1 and Free Lunch programs. I would love to say that my students have everything that they need, but that is not true. With recent changes in our school budget, we have not been able to order supplies or needed resources for our students. I can't teach math and science without materials to use with my students.
My Project
I would like to teach and have all the necessary items to give to my students. Teaching math across three grade levels is difficult when you don't have the materials available to you and the students. With the mini bulletin board set, I would be able to use them to model and demonstrate to my students using the document camera and interactive whiteboard. My students would be able to use the mini bulletin board sets in centers for additional practice. The different resource sets will increase my students understanding by focusing on the concrete as well as abstract aspects of learning math.
These math resource materials and mini bulletin board sets will allow me to turn my classroom into a multi-level math lab that will serve not just my fourth grade students, but other students in the school.
Your help and support of this project will place math back in the forefront of our education system.
