Sadly some of the highest dropout rates are among Native American students. How can we change that for my students? I think that we have to start by showing them that we care, that they are important, and help them create a love for learning.
I teach at a great school on a Native American Indian reservation.
I am lucky enough to teach 22 amazing second grade students that are hungry to learn even though many of them are well below grade level. By the end of the year I want to close the gap and help them reach grade level. I have high expectations for my students. In order for me to push them to achieve at high levels, I need to have a trusting, caring, relationship with them. To create this type of safe learning environment, I need access to the supplies that students will need in order to be successful.
My Project
Technology has changed the way I teach and has changed how students learn today. I am always searching for the best way to teach all the subjects and when I discover a great activity I want to print it for my students. It only makes sense to use all the resources we have at our finger tips. The math curriculum that we use has great software that allows me to create worksheets and activities for my students. If I see that students need more practice with subtracting double digits, I'm able to create practice sheets to match their needs. Then I need to be able to print those sheets for students. I also need to teach my students at their level. That means I need to constantly make lesson plan decisions according to how my learners are doing. Data in today's classroom is very important and sometime I need to print it so I can make good choices that will increase learning.
Having the capability to print in the classroom is immensely helpful.
There are times that I need to add to a lesson and quickly print copies of the day's activities. There are also times that I need to print data to share progress with my student's families. Printing is simple helpful in so many ways.
