Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a School Counselor at an elementary school with 425 awesome students. Our school is in a community with little to no resources. Many are from one parent households or cared for by either a grandparent or extended family. Despite the challenges many students face on a day to day basis, the students are eager to make a difference in their community and in their school.

My Project

Fidgets and other sensory materials will be used to create calming boxes in the classroom.

Students suffering from anxiety, anger or other "big feelings" will have the opportunity to have tools in the classroom to help them immediately.

Counseling books and games are used to accompany the guidance lessons. Students enjoy listening to a story, discussing it and ending with an activity to emphasize the lesson.

Red Ribbon Material will be used during Drug Awareness Week. During this time, faculty and staff help emphasize the importance of saying "no" to drugs and other harmful substances. We make the event special, by decorating our campus; giving away prizes and having different daily activities.
