As a first year teacher working at a Title 1 school I believe that it is my duty and my number one goal this year to help each and everyone of my amazing students to grow both academic and emotionally.
My students are creative, silly, smart, strong, and special in their own unique ways!
Like most first graders, my students love to move, read, and enjoy learning about the world around them. Many of my students are being raised in single parent households and receive a free or reduced lunch and breakfast based on their socioeconomic status. Due to this, I make sure that every day I am focusing on their potential growth by creating a positive and safe environment while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire them to continue on a path of academic excellence!
My Project
As a first year teacher I have learned that discussing emotions with my student is very important. It not only helps them recognize how they are feeling throughout the day, but it also helps them understand how their peers are feeling. Earlier this year we started each day by watching a video about different emotions. This included videos on gratitude, empathy, perseverance, growth mindset, and how to tame the beast inside you when you are feeling angry or sad.
I believe that these books will help impact my students when it comes to developing their social and emotional skills!
I also believe that by having these books in the classroom will help my students form a better understanding of how emotions form and will help them learn some strategies when it comes to taming the beast inside them. I also believe that by reading these books to my students will help us form deeper and or meaningful discussions about emotions. I finally believe that these books will help my students see that they are not the only ones feeling certain emotions.
