My Students

My students are a mixture of 9th and 10th graders who are considered Accelerated or Gifted according to their ELA assignments. They come from a variety of backgrounds. This specific group accepts a challenge and takes it to the next level. I have been extremely impressed with the writing and speaking abilities of this group of kids. I am looking for more ways to challenge them.

In Oral Communications class, students are not only tasked with speaking in front of their peers, but also developing their writing skills.

The group that I am blessed with has taken every assignment with stride, and they are begging to be challenged every day.

My Project

My project will provide a class set of the book "Talk Like TED" for my students to study during the term. As a part of my self developed curriculum, I want to use the knowledge in "Talk Like TED" to help flourish my students' creativity.

This book promotes so many lessons that can be used outside of Oral Communications.

One lesson that has stuck with me is that Passion is contagious. Helping my students find a passion for public speaking will benefit them the rest of their lives. I am excited about this book because I can cover standards in literature, writing, and speaking.
