My students come from a struggling, high needs, urban neighborhood in New York City. Our school is a warm, nurturing environment, and the children enjoy coming to school. I am currently teaching 18 lovable preschoolers who are curious, funny, loving, and eager to learn. The parents of our students are working hard to make a better life for their families and desire a stellar education for their children.
My little ones are curious, imaginative, loving, creative, honest, and cute.
The community is diverse and considerably lower income. The children I teach are all eager to learn and are enthusiastic. My classroom is comprised of children who are learning English and also with children who have different abilities.
My Project
Many of the children do not have their own collection of picture books at home so I want to make books available to them at school. I would like to send two books a week home with each child. The parents will be asked to read each night to their child. Parents have a big impact on their children as reading role models. My parents are interested in education and see the importance of reading to their children. They work with me and know that their attitude and involvement can make a big difference in their child's education. Parents and teachers have a big impact on children as reading role models
I am requesting an assortment of books on transportation for our preschool classroom.
Our classroom library has a limited number of books and I would like to add books that I know will appeal to the children. I have taught early childhood grades for many years and know the picture books the children will enjoy. I have selected books that capture a child's imagination and interest. The children will learn all about different vehicles and different modes of transportation. The books I have chosen will keep the children turning pages. I believe that children will desire to become life long readers if they are exposed early to books that appeal to them. Young children love books and to be read to. Please help me in my endeavor to enrich their lives with good books. We are also in need of book totes that will be used to transport books home each week. My goal is to provide an enriching environment where a love of learning and reading can be instilled in all of the children in my care.
