My Students
I am a third grade teacher in a small rural community close to a large city. Many of our families commute to work in the city. I have a classroom of many different personalities, learning styles and levels of learning. Many of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch.
Third graders are always excited and are generally willing to try anything.
Third grade is such a huge year for transition. The students move to a new building, have textbooks, and content reading is at a higher focus. Third graders begin to think more globally as they learn more about the world beyond home and school, and they enjoy learning new things.
My Project
Students enjoy reading about current news. Time for Kids also features science, entertainment, and other news articles -- including some written by grade school-age reporters. Kids can also read mini-sites that center on topics like the presidential election and women’s history month.
This is a valuable resource that helps build kids' awareness of the world around them and could help them develop a social and political consciousness.
Scholastic provides magazines for science and writing. Each issue comes with videos, Teacher's Guides, activity sheets and learning games that launch powerful skill-building lessons. It also helps reach every reader with a lower reading level, Text-to-Speech audio and ELL support.
