I have received a large sensory tent through the help of another grant through my school's PTO. In this tent are all of the things that have been provided through my DonorsChose project. The \"stress balls\" and the putty tins have been their favorite. These two items are usually the first two things that they look for when they need to regulate themselves. \r\n\r\nThe little axolotls got the biggest WOW! Reaction when I first showed my students. We have been using the kindness chips, and the emotional task cards in our morning meetings to help be proactive about regulation. The white boards have been a wonderful addition to our classroom as a whole in all academic and emotional needs throughout our classroom. Drawing pictures when we are sad, extra space to solve math problems, or practicing our writing skills with sentences--these boards have provided us a fresh and clean space to do our best thinking. Our previous boards were over 20 years old and were in desperate need of an update. \r\n\r\nNext steps will be to add more read a louds involving various struggles that my students in this demographic encounter. Things like homelessness, incarceration, drug abuse, racism, poverty, food insecurities, etc. I would also like the ability to add more visuals into my classroom as well. Such as a zones of regulation chart, and ways to communicate non verbally. Snacks/food are something that we use A LOT of, and I use it frequently when I have students who are struggling. Most of the time, I find that their emotions are usually because of an unmet need; tired or sleepy. This is not always the case, but these two happen frequently. I want to thank you again for your support of me, my classroom, and students.","fullyFundedDate":1758336879477,"projectUrl":"project/emotional-regulation/9676146/","projectTitle":"Emotional Regulation","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Swisegood","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10238675"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_63184","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":429,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":38,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":88,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"3 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":63184,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Odessa Upper Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Odessa Upper Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/odessa-r7-school-district/odessa-upper-elementary-school/63184"}
