My Students

My students are incredible! The small rural school district I teach in allows for small class sizes which allows me to really get to know each of my students each semester and year that they are in my class. This allows me to get to know my students' personal and professional goals as they consider the lives they want to live after high school.

Students want to use relevant technology, they just need to have access and be provided with opportunities to learn how to effectively use it.

My students come up with incredible ideas, they read about and see different ways to use technology to advance projects, often the technology we have here at school is the only access they have to it. When I've brought in my personal devices to school to allow students to try using them, students have remarked at how they wish we had more here.

My Project

Every student will have the opportunity to work with these iPads to help them develop their skills in art, technology, and engineering through the use of various apps and programs. Some brief examples of the ways this technology will support the already existing curriculum: In the Intro to Art class, students will be able to use iPads and pencils to develop their drawing skills in procreating directly drawing, digitally on photographs of still lives that we have been using in class. This will give students a better understanding of drawing principles such as a foreshortening perspective, line quality, etc- all of these skills are essential for art, engineering, and architecture. Additionally, students can develop small-scale renderings for sculpture and architectural projects. In the Design Fundamentals class, students will be able to develop their design portfolio, explore design concepts and develop their hand lettering/font design skills with ease and efficiency, this will also allow them to develop their own personal logo, product designs and to develop so. In the Studio Productions class, students would be able to develop their digital drawings and multi-media approaches to art-making, this allows for more depth in their art portfolios as well as deepening their knowledge of expanded media and User Experience design. In the Project Management class, students will be able to develop digital pieces for their project proposals for clients and collaboratively brainstorm efficiently.

These iPads, iPencils and app programs will have a long term impact on students, allowing them to get their hands on cutting edge technology to develop more in depth relationships between analog and digital processes in art within the larger STEAM context.

They will be able to leave high school with knowledge of using programs that thousands of industry professionals already know and understand.
