As a teacher of students with disabilities, I am continually working to find ways to help make them successful. Many of my students not only struggle in the classroom, but also have struggles outside of the classroom. We are a Title 1 district in a rural community. The majority of our students receive free or reduced lunches. Many of my students do not have wireless services available next to them at home and therefore struggle to use additional resources general education teachers attempt to provide them.
My students have goals and dreams, and as their teacher, it’s my mission to help them succeed.
With additional supports provided to them, I believe they can do anything they set their minds to. They are wonderful children!
My Project
My students need my guidance available to them outside of school. For many students, they are unable to continue working on their work at home because it is too difficult for them to maneuver alone and online guidance is not available as they are not connected.
With the Livescribe 3 Smartpen, I can model solutions, send them a file containing my notes and they can take my work home to help guide them, and best of all, no internet is needed.
In working with the Michigan Merit Curriculum and SAT preparation, my students can use these files as needed. Being able to use this smart pen will allow me to reach many students, in many subjects, including those who I work with in my Academic Support Classes. Continual practice, exposure and modeling will help ensure their success in otherwise difficult subjects.
