My Students

My students in Brooklyn are from diverse backgrounds. They are eager readers and writers of the 21st century. The stories they read and write come alive, not only from written texts but also from media text (e.g., social media and the like). Our school uses the Mood Meter based on R.U.L.E.R. components from Yale University that help us enhance our learning in the classroom by focusing on social-emotional learning.

In our school, our population focus is on English language learners and students with disabilities and because of this, we put our students' character first, which then joins hands with our content that we teach.

When we put our students' emotions first, we build trust, empathy, and loyalty within our community of learners.

Our readers and writers are our leaders of tomorrow. They are our convincers of the present and our future. Our students use their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills to build a better future for themselves, their families and their local communities.

My Project

I am requesting an easel to write on for myself and my co-teacher and 10 additional seats. We are limited with seats and students would rather sit on the floor than on the chairs. Please provide us with the tools we need in our classroom to transform various learning styles. These tools can be used by students to be student-leaders and teacher leaders in the classroom to create more independent learners in the classroom.

The stools provide flexible seating arrangements for the kids to learn how they wish.

We fully believe in the universal design learning pedagogy wherein all students learn, but at their own pace, too. The easel can be used for student-leaders to lead lessons. The goal is for students to be teacher leaders in the classroom.

The goal is to also give students a chance at autonomy in the classroom. Our students need not only the materials but the confidence to succeed. Will you help them reach that level in the classroom?
