My students need journals, book bags and bilingual books. They need the experience to take the book home and do activities with their families.
This project expired on November 12, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
First grade is the place to be! Students within this community come from extreme poverty. They enter the classroom eager to learn and are introduced to new things throughout the year.
I work with a group of amazing, diverse, bilingual students who soak up new information as they explore the tools in the classroom.
My first-grade classroom is set up to be student-led and allow the students to work at their own pace.
As a result, students are able to develop at their level in a very low-stakes environment. The activities stimulate their interest while helping to make sense of the world around them. There is no greater place to be than a first-grade classroom!
To encourage the love of literacy in our young learners we would love to start a take-home book project.
We will provide small tote bags that contain books, plush with the characters of the book, puzzles, and reading activities.
Each week our students will take turns taking home our "take home book" bag.
The children's parents will read the story to them and then the children will draw a picture in the journal provided to show us what they did with their special friend while it visited. We believe this will be a fun and exciting addition to our classroom.
