First grade is the place to be! Students within this community come from extreme poverty. They enter the classroom eager to learn and are introduced to new things throughout the year. I work with a group of amazing, diverse, bilingual students who soak up new information as they explore the tools in the classroom. My first-grade classroom is set up to be student-led and allow the students to work at their own pace. As a result, students are able to develop at their level in a very low-stakes environment. The activities stimulate their interest while helping to make sense of the world around them. There is no greater place to be than a first-grade classroom!
