My Students

First graders are word detectives! Word detectives need lots of practice using their decoding strategies as well as practice to build fluency and comprehension. This project will provide my students and their families with a reliable learning resource, allowing me as the teacher to share books and resources with students and families.

My Project

Research continues to show that students who have consistent access to high-quality books at their independent reading level become stronger readers as well as lifelong readers who love reading!

One of my goals this next academic year is to create a take-home system in the classroom where students get to choose 3-5 books to take home and read with their families each week.

The "See-Inside Storage Pouch" from Lakeshore will help me make this goal a reality! It is a sturdy and reliable bag that can hold several books easily and even has a label spot for each child's name, so they know it is their bag for the year. Having a special bag for the take-home system makes it special for the students and helps them want to take responsibility for bringing books back and forth from school each week.
