Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students remind me of the younger version of myself. They are creative, passionate, and inquisitive. My students long to understand and learn new exciting things. Our school is an EL Education school, so we are known for our close-knit environment where students have strong character development, and they look forward to having meaningful academic and social experiences regularly.

One of our school's six core values as a school is Curiosity and Creativity.

Therefore, we expect our students to have a healthy desire to engage with life in inquisitive and creative ways. As a result, we are intentional about ensuring that the classes we provide align perfectly with those core values.

The first time I tried a new instrument was in elementary school, and this propelled me into the teacher I am today. I am a classically trained musician in the Detroit region, and I would love to give our young students the opportunity to try instrumental music as well. One of our goals this year is to give each student access to strong instrumental music instruction. However, it is quite difficult for one to learn music when they have to share a music stand. This project will help give my students the opportunity to learn music to their fullest capacity.
