With our school population of almost 800, 100% of the students are living in apartments. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 85% of our students receiving free lunch. Students have the option to receive free breakfast daily through a program at the school that is open to all students.
Our school has a diverse population of students from various countries who speak a variety of different languages.
Many students will come to our school for the first time and never have learned to speak English. I have assisted our school in providing a variety of resources such as weekend food bags for students, free eye care and exams, dental screenings, a free food pantry, and a clothing closet.
My Project
I am wanting to supply the team with much-needed sports equipment. We are fortunate enough to work with local police officers to coach students throughout the school year.
Living in a low-income area having these police officers coach students is beneficial to have these positive role model for the students.
Many of the students come from a single-parent home and would generally not have access to play on a sports team.
I would like for the students to have access to the same sports equipment as other schools. Help us kick it with some new basketball equipment. These basketballs and the utility wagon are key.
