This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Reading is magical! My students are emerging readers who are just beginning to grasp what is so wonderful about books. Please help me support this growing love of reading, by providing them with comfortable, motivating and "special and different" seating options for library time.

My students are brave, excited, interested, creative, hilarious and wonderful.

They are 5-8 years old and have a variety of special needs and face a variety of challenges every day, not the least of which are their physical and motoric difficulties. Sitting cross-legged or in a classroom chair with feet on the floor is often extremely difficult. For a student already struggling to remain seated in these positions to also remain focused, for any length of time, is nearly impossible. Imagine being asked to learn a new language, or advanced calculus, no matter your skill level or dedication, it would be that much harder to accomplish whatever task when sitting in an uncomfortable, distracting position. My students work hard and are eager to learn. They need the supports to be their most successful.

My Project

I am working towards a full, beautiful, welcoming classroom library. While my students love being in the library as it is, with a carpet and walls for seating, I am eager to provide them with comfortable, motivating and rewarding seating options; options which will further their motivation to read. These chairs will not only do that, but will make a huge difference in the aesthetics of our library as well!

These chairs will help build our classroom library.

All students should have access to books and reading. Our school has no library and I've been given no budget. Everything I have so far I have bought or it has been donated. These chairs are a huge boost to our library, which right now has a carpet and walls for seating options.
