Having access to color has brought our lessons to life, making content more accessible and exciting for all students, especially our visual learners. Whether it's a full-color map in social studies, a vivid diagram in science, or a behavior chart personalized with a student's favorite character, the ability to print in color makes a lasting impact.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting features for students is seeing their own work displayed in color. It adds a sense of pride and value to what they create. For students who require visual supports—such as those with special needs—the use of color-coded visuals has been incredibly effective in helping them stay organized and understand multi-step tasks.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who often struggles to stay engaged during whole-group instruction, has become noticeably more focused since we began using colorful visual prompts during lessons. The images and color-coded steps help reduce confusion and allow him to follow along with greater confidence and independence.\r\n\r\nThis technology has become an essential tool in our classroom toolkit. The bean bag, rug, sensory tools, and tactile stickers instantly drew them in. For many, it felt like a safe, welcoming part of the classroom that belonged just to them—a space where they could breathe, pause, and reset.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the Cozy Corner as part of our self-regulation routine. During moments when a student feels overwhelmed, instead of escalating to a full crisis, they now have the option to take a break in the Cozy Corner. They use the sensory tools to calm their bodies and minds, and the tactile stickers have become a favorite grounding strategy for many of our learners. The corner has truly transformed the way students manage emotions and return to learning ready and focused.\r\n\r\nA specific moment that stands out was when one of our students, who previously struggled with staying in the classroom during tough moments, independently asked to go to the Cozy Corner. After just a few minutes using the tactile tools and deep breathing on the bean bag, they were able to rejoin the class and complete a group activity—a big win for that student and for our classroom community.\r\n\r\nRight now, our class is working on a social-emotional learning unit focused on identifying emotions and building coping strategies. The Cozy Corner directly supports this learning by giving students a real-world application of the skills we're building together. Our next steps include having students create their own personal \"calm cards\" to keep in the corner—reminders of what strategies work best for them.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, we've created a more inclusive, responsive classroom environment where every student has the tools to succeed. Thank you for being a part of that transformation.","fullyFundedDate":1736389807149,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-cozy-and-engaging-learning-sp/8801638/","projectTitle":"Creating a Cozy and Engaging Learning Space for All Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Harris","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9277798_orig.png?crop=770,770,x0,y28&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1718928155788","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/helpourstudentsthrive"},{"teacherId":8323681,"projectId":9031090,"letterContent":"Students are excited and overjoyed to record their projects with quality in the sound proof recording booth. The availability of color printing in a school setting with students with disabilities is an important and necessary classroom resource. Your contribution has given the students the opportunity to have their classroom materials printed in color. Incorporating the color worksheets have helped the student to see the relevance of the content and its real-world application. The materials have served to reinforce the use and value of learning materials that could have otherwise been printed in black and white and appear boring and disconnected to the students. \r\n\r\nThe gift has been used for the printing of differentiated worksheets, reference charts, posters, and various other classroom materials including projects. For example, during Black History Month there were several assignments completed, including our most recent project where students created dioramas and hand puppets.
