My Project

We are taking a new approach to taking charge of our learning. With this new and exciting approach, we are in desperate need of flexible seating for all students such as ottomans and portable lap desks. We all know that kindergarten students have a difficult time sitting in one place for a long time. But what if we changed their seats? We could allow them to bounce on the yoga balls while writing or reading. Or how about having stools that allow them to swing their legs while doing a project? The possibilities can be endless for them with flexible seating.

Students are more engaged in learning when they are able to be active or choose their seating type.

Early learners need to feel like they are in control of their learning. One way to ensure they feel like they have a choice is to allow them to pick a seat that works best for them. Some students want to sit and wiggle while working. Others may choose a traditional chair. The best thing about letting them choose their chair type is that student engagement will be enhanced. Another positive for flexible seating is that student behaviors should decrease since they have the option to stay active without having the urge to run around the classroom.
