This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in my class are from a variety of diverse backgrounds. They come from different cultures, lifestyles, family structures, and religions. My students come to school ready to learn. They enjoy hands-on activities to help them better understand what is being taught and why. As their teacher, I try my best to make every lesson as hands-on and interactive as possible to keep them engaged and wanting to learn.
Every student in our school receives free lunch, breakfast, and dinner.
Our school is located across the street from income-based housing. The majority of students walk home or are bused nearby.
My school is an older building that is Title I. Even though we are Title I and fully accredited this year, public school funding continues to dwindle year after year. I want to provide the students with as many educational experiences as possible in order to set them up for future success!
My Project
Everyone wants to be comfortable, even kids! Currently my classroom has chairs that are extremely heavy, uncomfortable and do not stack. These chairs are probably 30 years old and impossible for students to lift due to how heavy they are. We have to stack our chairs or place them on the desk every afternoon in order for our room to be swept. The weight of the chairs is too much for the students and are heavy even for me to lift.
It's hard to learn when you're uncomfortable!
Not only are our chairs heavy, they are extremely hard and highly uncomfortable. Even with chair guards, the chairs are hard to move around because of their bulk.
Please help my students be comfortable so they can be excellent learners!
