My students need a comfortable environment in which to learn and grow, and these options for flexible seating will allow them a variety of options! We need ball chairs, floor cushions, and balancing balls.

My Students

I teach sophomores and seniors in a high poverty school district in South Carolina. Despite the many obstacles that they must overcome, my students are kind, thoughtful, and full of energy.

My students are from different backgrounds and life experiences, yet we all come together in English class as one.

I am always looking for new ways to increase literacy and success in my classroom. My students have a desire to better themselves - they want to learn and grow, which makes me excited every day to come to work!

My Project

My students are eager learners, and they are especially interested in assignments that allow them to work independently. We do a great deal of personal reading assignments, in which students have class time to read books on topics they've selected. Sitting at a desk for 50+ minutes is often not the most effective way to engage students. Most of my students need to move around to break up the monotony of the class period. The students love the freedom to work individually and at their own pace; however, sometimes the classroom itself is not conducive to a comfortable working environment.

This project will allow my students to have some options in what type of seating arrangement works best for them as learners - whether they need a bouncy chair to get out some energy or a traditional hard-back chair or a cushion on the floor.

By having some options, students will continue to thrive in a more comfortable and accommodating environment, which encourages learning and growth.
