My Students
I teach in a wonderful county in North Carolina that serves students from all sorts of backgrounds. I teach 22-24 first grade students each year who are bright, sweet, kind and interested in learning more from the world around them. I have an assistant half of the day, in the afternoon, who helps guide groups, monitor and enlighten my students.
Interested, diverse and active are words that I would use to describe my bright, bubbly students in first grade.
My students like to learn, they are curious and they love to move. First graders tend to be an active, bright age group that is so exciting to teach. Reaching students in any and all of their needs is very important to me.
My Project
Studies show that flexible seating offers all students the opportunity to stay focused on a lesson. By beginning my flexible seating in my classroom, I am providing a safe place for students to have a seat that fits their needs. Some students like to bounce, others like to rock and both of these seating options gives students the opportunity to have their needs met.
Active students are a part of the diverse population, that I serve in NC, who deserve to have their needs met with flexible seating options.
Ball chairs offer those possible active students with the opportunity to bounce at their desk while they work. This offers them the chance to complete work in a timely manner, stay focused and stay on task. Rocking chairs at the Book Nook center offer students the ability to rock while they read silently. This will enhance their focus on their texts which will increase their comprehension. Both flexible seating options provide my students with met needs and the opportunity to show better success in the area of focus.
