My Students

My students live in a rural area in Upper Michigan. We are a high poverty school district and one hundred percent of the students are able receive free breakfast and lunch. While our district passed a millage rate to update the technology in our buildings a couple of years ago; we slashed our spending to balance our budget.

This year my goal is to continue to create an inviting and warm space to help encourage creativity from my students.

I want my vibrant teenagers to be proud of their classroom and enjoy walking in the door each day.

Thanks to generous donors, we acquired new tables, standing desks, energy saving lamps, curtains, bulletin board supplies, and two futon and comfortable chairs for our classroom. However, with large classes this year we still need another batch of chairs for our tables to maximize our learning environment.

My Project

The layout of a classroom can have a large impact on how students learn. Since I have large classes, I am in a need a few additional chairs so my students all have a comfortable seat. Flexible seating is important to my energetic students and I like to have options for how classroom seating is arranged.

Bringing additional chairs into my classroom would allow all my students to use our tables when we divide up into teams for group work.

I think that this change would be more conducive to creativity and the chairs would be used this year and for years to come.
