Working at one of the largest elementary schools in the district brings along opportunities to work with students and families of diverse backgrounds.
Most of our families are low income, and often our students experience homelessness and little food.
While at school, our students know they are safe and provided two meals a day along with snacks. As their school counselor, I am able to provide to some of them the only constant they have in their lives.
My students know I am always there for them no matter what, and that I love them very much. One of my favorite parts of my day is greeting them each morning with a smile and a big hug.
My Project
Quite often I meet with students who are having difficult moments at school and home. They find themselves without an outlet to release their sadness and/or frustration. Unfortunately, students have broken objects in my room for all their pent up emotions, and I sincerely would love to provide other options.
With having resources in my office such as the requested kinetic sand and a punching bag will allow my students the perfect place and a great way to empty out all those feelings appropriately.
