My students need 4 Tag Reader systems and Tag books to build success and confidence as readers!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Have you ever wanted to do something independently, but couldn't? My students are struggling readers who get frustrated easily when they're faced with materials and vocabulary they've never had exposure to.
I teach in a low-income school.
Most of our students receive free or reduced lunch, and are unable to afford even the most basic school supplies. We have a high population of ESOL, self-contained Special Education, and LD Resource students. I teach English language learners in kindergarten through fifth grade. My students want to be independent in all they do, but they are so limited by their language skills. Reading is one of the hardest things for them. They see their English-speaking peers succeeding at reading and want to be the same. Most of my parents are not able to help their students succeed at home because of their limited English vocabulary and skills. This directly affects their classroom performance in many ways, including practicing important skills through homework.
English language learners at our school do not have the same background or available resources as their native-speaking peers. Most of our students struggle to have their needs met on the most basic of levels. This makes teaching them an even bigger challenge. These Tag readers and books by LeapFrog will give my students the opportunity to be independent while reading a book. Each Tag reader has the availability to read the story to the student while the student is reading along. The titles available are common to all students, which will let students feel successful as readers.
My students need the opportunity to feel successful.
These Tag readers will give the students the chance to read independently and gain knowledge, all while encouraging them to develop the reading skills necessary for a successful and productive life.
