Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work at an at risk middle school where the vast majority of students are minorities living in poverty, and English is their second language. We are always low on funding, and have little in the budget set aside for art supplies. Because of this, I have not been able to do any clay projects because of the the high expense.

I would love for them to learn about science and nature through sculpture with Mayco Stroke & Wonder Glaze in a lesson that integrates learning about sea creatures and the danger of pollution to our aquatic wildlife, particularly fish,.

This will help them to make those important cross curricular connections that will enforce and enhance their learning through tactile creations and research, creating a more equitable learning environment for all underprivileged children and those with learning impairments. For students struggling to understand and validate their education, this is invaluable.

As a middle school teacher, this project will help students who are on the wrong path to become engaged in their learning before they hit high school, where it is often too late for them to make that shift.
