Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students explore, connect, and create! They are motivated by hands on projects that provide them an alternative means to express their ideas. They overcome unique challenges each day to persevere and make progress toward their goals. I am honored to come alongside them to support their academic and social emotional needs. They deserve every opportunity to reach their full potential.
"Never before in history has innovation offered promise of so much to so many in so short a time." Bill Gates
Our families struggle in the hardships of a Title One school in Glendale, Arizona. We have a diverse community with deep needs for resources, acceptance, and positive relationships. Our school is known as a "Be Kind" campus where the strengths of ALL students are celebrated. Teachers, leadership, and community members collaborate to give our students an environment that prepares them for high school and beyond. We believe in positive behavior interventions, small group instruction, universal accommodations, technology integration, and data driven instructional strategies to meet the needs of our students. I support the most amazing group of achievers in the most incredible place to teach!
My Project
I chose Amazon Fire tablets, shock cases, and inline headphones as my project because our school wide goals for this year are small group instruction and student data collection. My students currently track their progress for their individual education plan and content standard goals in a student data binder. We make decisions for instruction based on the progress data. We collaborate as teacher and student to determine the skills and grouping strategies for small group based on their data. I have used applications we can access on the tablets that give them a alternative to assessment. They will be able to utilize writing tools such as speech to text technology. Students will be able to track their data in digital portfolios. Small group projects will be supported with the wealth of digital tools available in the tablets. We will utilize the tablets in many innovative ways to support our diverse learners!
"In special education, there's too much emphasis placed on the deficit and not enough on the strength." Temple Grandin
