My students need 5 Google Nexus 7" Tablets for more exposure to research and project tools. Tablets are the ideal way to offer them this chance and be able to monitor and assist them in these tasks.
Our three computer labs that we sign up for to use for research and project building, are booked months in advance due to FCAT and benchmark testing. This makes it extremely difficult to provide computer access to my students. I do have Wi-Fi in my classroom, but no devices to utilize it!
My students are a very diverse and intellectual group.
Regardless of how different they are, all of my students have such a deep passion to extend their learning. I have students who come from all different backgrounds. Some of my students have access to new technology (on multiple devices) while others only have access here at school. My students who only access technology at school have very limited opportunities to work with technology as the school computers are often occupied for state and district test requirements. Additionally, my students with disabilities often need a different way or strategy to learn a concept and to increase their understanding. Technology in the classroom would provide this chance for them to master a concept and show their independence in their learning. Students' learning styles vary greatly. Technology in the classroom would allow them to explore the way they learn best and show improvement in our curriculum unit learning goals.
My Project
I would like nothing more than to give my students the best opportunity to learn and grow. Providing easy access to information is a key component of that. My students are used to having information at their fingertips and when some of them enter my classroom they feel like they are back in the stone age. I am tired of hearing my students say, " I'll look it up when I get home."
The other end of the spectrum are my students who unfortunately do not have access to these tools at home. School provides one of the only access points to all of this information. Most times these are unavailable to them because they are being utilized for testing. Providing tablets for the class to use would allow those who have this technology to continue to use it and excel. It would also allow students who do not have, the opportunity to keep pace with their peers and utilize the available technology.
Due to all of our diverse needs, using tablets will help me to easily differentiate my instruction to meet the needs of my 21st century learners.
I will easily be able to vary the way my students can learn to best fit their learning styles. Daily access to this technology will develop skills that are life-long skills, allowing them to be more successful now and in the future as young professionals.
