My Students

I work in a urban school district, where 89% of the students receive free and reduced lunch. It is a Title 1 school, and the students struggle academically every year.

My school has also become an English as a Second Language (ESL) center for the district, and my classroom alone has several students learning to speak English.

The students I teach are in a second/third grade split classroom, which means I teach both second and third graders in the same class. This is an additional challenge not only for me, but especially for my students.

My Project

First, my students will be able to the tablets as grade-specific math, reading and writing centers. This will be a great benefit to my students because when I am teaching a second-grade group, for instance, the rest of my class can be engaged with age appropriate material. In addition, the tablets will help my ESL students because there are high-quality applications available for the tablets that teach English letters and sounds for non-native speakers.

Finally, in keeping with the new standards, the tablets will help connect my students to the Internet so that they can conduct research projects and gather relevant and current information.
