This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all part of a Performing and Visual Arts program and are excited to start their new year. I believe that both arts and sciences are equally important to my students education, and technology in the classroom can completely reshape and take their experience beyond the traditional pen and paper classroom.

My students get excited at the prospect of being able to use tablets in class to learn.

My students are coming into a new classroom with very little resources, and my educational background comes from a program that stresses and teaches Computer based lessons and labs. There are incredible opportunities for learning with the right technology in the classroom that can engage students and get them excited for learning.

My Project

There are several uses for the tablets in my classroom. First, my students will be able to better connect with the science content, and utilize collaborative applications and data from labs. Having technology allows for students to see their data graphically and also pool their data with the entire class for for accurate trends and analysis. In the Science classroom, tablets also allow for simulations, and quiz games.

My Students will also be able to use the tablets for a gaming club where they will play a strategic card game and develop critical thinking skills.

Video games have grown into a well respected field in recent years, with college scholarships being awarded to talented players, akin to sports players. Many Universities offer both e-sports programs for players, as well as game development programs and degrees. Big name companies such as Blizzard Entertainment have launched initiatives to increase the number of female and minority employees. Gaming is also generally fun for the students and gives some people a reason to want to come to class. Respecting my students' love for gaming has allowed me to connect with them and carry that into the science classroom as well.
