Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Most of their homes, as well as areas of our school, still get flooded with heavy rain. Most of them qualify for free or reduced lunch. They are smart and very eager to learn, but they lack resources. There’s no time for homework because they have to help their parents at work or to care for the house. The only opportunity they have to express their knowledge is during the school day. They don’t have money for extras. Every dollar they have goes towards paying the light and putting food on the tablet. The teachers buy the school supplies, the snacks, and the colorful book boxes, and things to make the class fun, because they simply can’t afford them.
My Project
These students still continue to be affected by Hurricane Harvey. All their funds and ours go to the basics like school supply, food for those who can’t afford it and sometimes even socks and jackets for the cold. They deserve the same advantages as school in middle and high class neighborhoods. These tablets will allow my students to research topics using educational websites such as Discovery Education and Flocabulary. They can answer academic questions and compete with each in a fun, safe way while using They can record their projects using the video recording option. They can also earn free pizza parties if they use Math Apps such as MobyMax and others. They can learn while still being engaged. These tablets will be one more reason they will want to come to school to learn.
