My kindergarten students are a loud and active bunch. We spend much of our day playing, singing, and moving our bodies, and I am learning how to cover math and reading standards using hands-on methods that really help kids "get" what is being taught.
We are learning to read, write, manage conflict, and appreciate the math and science that surrounds us everywhere we go.
In addition to the basics of kindergarten learning, we also spend much of our time learning outside in our outdoor classroom and learning what it means to be a good friend. We plant flowers in the fall, shovel sidewalks in the winter, and pick up trash in the neighborhood in the spring.
Kindergarten is a joy, and I am thankful for this site for helping us obtain materials to keep our learning headed in the right direction.
My Project
My students need Kindle Fire tablets for independent work during center time.
Each classroom at our school is given 6 Chromebooks (laptops), but these are a challenge for 5 and 6 years olds to navigate independently.
I would like four Kindle Fire tablets so that my kids can use educational apps such as Starfall, ABCmouse, IXL, and Epic! for reading and math. I will also use headphone splitters and QR codes so the tablets can be used as a listening center with real books in our classroom. Finally, we will use them to post pictures, videos, and drawings to the Seesaw app. Seesaw is an app used for communicating with parents and sharing student work, and as mentioned before, difficult to navigate on a Chromebook.
One of the benefits of using tablets in a kindergarten classroom is that it allows the teacher to successfully work with small groups of kids because the rest of the class is occupied with independent work. These tablets would ensure that I am able to do interventions and work 1:1 with some students and know that the rest are still learning and engaged.
