Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classes consist of a total of about 120 7th grade math students from diverse backgrounds SES backgrounds and varying abilities. Some of my students do not have internet access at home and would benefit from the use of tablets during lunch. My students are eager to learn and love exploring new websites. They are competitive and love to play games that test their knowledge.
In addition, some students have 5-10 minutes available in class for enrichment or to start their online homework.
They are unable to do this as the computers we have, when we have them, take so long to load the settings. By the time they are done loading, it is time to pack up to leave.
My Project
My goal is to integrate technology whenever possible. Classroom computers need to be shared among other classes and take a lot of time to start and load settings. There are times when I would like to get a quick assessment on how students understand a particular lesson. Some students have their own devices but many do not. I would like to acquire 9 KingPad tablets for student use, cases to protect the tablets and a charging station to use in my classroom.
By having these tablets, my students will be able to use Canvas, Socrative, and Kahoot, as well as other apps and websites for quick formative assessements.
The tablets can be used in station activities and group work. In addition, tablets can be used for quick remediation and practice of basic skills for ESE students or students who are having difficulties. Tablets will help differentiate instruction.
