My students need tablets to improve their math and science skills! They would use these tablets on a daily basis for all the subjects, including math, science, reading and writing.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I see that my students are faced with many challenges, both in school and at home. Despite these challenges, I wish to create the best possible learning environment for them and give them as many opportunities as I can to learn in the ways that suit them best.
My students are creative, intuitive, and independent eight and nine-year-olds.
They enjoy learning in different forms, and love having a choice of how they learn. They love positive attention and encouragement, especially the ones who do not get it at home. Many of my students are raised by single parents, grandparents, and aunts or uncles. Sometimes, there can be many extended family members all living under the same roof. Sometimes, there is not enough stability or love at home to help them grow. I am trying to make my classroom as nurturing as I can.
My Project
I am trying to get 7 more Amazon fire tablets with cases and 7 more headphones for my students to use in class. This would mean that every student in my class would have their own tablet to use. The tablets will be used on a daily basis to improve math , science, and reading differentiation. The headphones will enable some students to be working on the tablets when they finish work, without disturbing those still working. The headphones will also help students focus on what is on the tablet instead of getting distracted by others.
Tablets and headphones will greatly improve math and science differentiation and extension activities.
There are numerous apps and websites the students can use to improve their math and science knowledge. The tablets will work with our math and science curriculum. Students who are struggling with reading will also be using the tablets when they finish work, to become more fluent in reading by reading along to a e-book or practicing sight words.
