This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Over three quarters of the students in our school qualify for free or reduced price lunch and we serve every child a free breakfast. Parents are involved, but given that they have little money to spare, technology for the classroom is not priority. I want my students to grow in every aspect of life.

My classroom is filled with students who range in ages from 3 to 5 years.

They all have special needs ranging from severe to high functioning. We use primarily hands-on manipulatives because the technology is not available to try other venues of teaching. My students are eager to learn about the computer, and I am sure tablets with free apps will open a new door on learning for them. I am excited about the possibilities as well. Communication is always a big hurdle to overcome when working with students who have verbal difficulties. Tablets can be used as communication boards as well as learning devices.

My Project

My students need two Samsung tablets to help them with communication, math and reading. The Samsung tablets will be used with free apps to help my students with communication and learning skills. We have wireless capabilities here on campus, so the tablets can be used anywhere in the building which makes them perfect for when the students go into the regular classroom. Math is a subject where my students need a lot of additional help. Tablets have a lot of free apps available to help with math instruction.

My project is important because the education of my students is important.

There is an old saying that a society is only as mighty as the power it gives to its least citizen. My students are often overlooked as they don't do state testing, but they are important if society is to be strong and caring. Help me to foster a fire of learning in my students that will last for years. Thank you.
