Over 87% of the students in our school qualify for free or reduced price lunch and we serve every child a free breakfast. Parents are involved, but given that they have little money to spare, technology for the classroom is not priority. I want my students to have the same access to tablets and computers that their peers have in other schools. There is no money in our district budget to buy new technology or upgrade the existing technology. My students are eager to learn about the computer, and I am sure tablets with free apps will open a new door on learning for them. I am excited about the possibilities as well. Communication is always a big hurdle to overcome when working with students who have verbal difficulties. Tablets can be used as communication boards as well as learning devices.
