My Students

As a recent college graduate and first-year teacher, I cannot wait to meet my students! This fall I will join a small, rural school in Wisconsin. My students are diverse; last year half received free or reduced lunch. Many are English Language Learners. Regardless of individual backgrounds, the students and I will make up one learning team.

Our classroom team will imagine, create and learn together.

I believe that with the right environment, materials, and opportunities, all of my students can learn and feel successful in my classroom.

My Project

As I start my teaching career, having tables, rather than the desks pictured, will help my class achieve a climate where we can all learn as a team. Students can work together instead of sitting at individual desks and working independently.

Tables will allow us to "turn and talk" and work collaboratively while opening other spaces for different types of group work.

Through dialogue, children learn literacy skills. They will teach each other, learn from each other, and solve problems together. Students learn how to share spaces and materials. In the end, these tables will help create a collaborative environment for our learning team.
