My Students

I teach at least 20 kindergarteners each year. My students enter the classroom in August timid, excited, surprised, and scared. A variety of emotions come with each class. But with each class, Love remains the same. I love my students oh so much. In our year together, we become a family.

In a good classroom, students feel safe and comfortable.

An amazing classroom atmosphere is a must. Furniture and fixtures are at an appropriate level and size for 5- and 6-year-old children.

I have been teaching kindergarten students for twenty-three years. I absolutely love my school, community, and students and I want to be able to make my classroom a happy second home for my students. It is imperative that my classroom have proper furniture so my children can feel comfortable

My Project

Seating is a necessity to any classroom, especially in a kindergarten classroom.

Saturday, January 11, 2020 was a very devestating day in the life of my school.

An EF 2 tornado destroyed the school. We were all so thankful that school was not in session on this day, but saddened at the same time that all of the wonderful items which made my classroom bright, and happy was gone just like that, in a matter of seconds.

We are a very resilient small community. We began immediate thinking of the next steps. We moved what we could to the Middle school building down the road. Donations poured in. Community is everything and we were amazed by the generosity of people from our state and the nation.

Unfortunately, tables and chairs were not replaced. We received donations of single seating metal desk to put in the classroom. These were great to get through for a little while, but they are not really functional long term for kindergarten students. They are very noisy and rather wobbly. The tops of the desks are stained and the coating worn off.

I want my students first year of school to be a truly an amazing experience. I want them to feel safe and secure while doing their work, visiting with friends, and eating snack. The majority of our day will take place at the tables and with these tables come learning and growth and everything that is kindergarten. The tables and chairs will be a blessing to my students today and future students.
