Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am lucky to teach art to every student in the building which adds up to more than 500 students in a high-poverty public school. This includes first through fifth-grade classes, including bilingual classes and self-contained special needs. We are 85% low income, resulting in all of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch daily. Our school is located in a predominantly Spanish-speaking community with 50% of students being English Language Learners and 80% of students speaking Spanish at home.
My Project
I am looking to add a new table and slick paint to my art room! Currently, I have tables that are falling apart and are held together by packing tape. I am looking to replace one of my old tables in my classroom with a new one that will last and be suitable for students at the elementary level.
Many of my students are ESL and are just learning to speak English.
Art is a great way for them to communicate and express themselves when words are difficult for them to find. I am looking to add new and creative ways for self-expression in my classroom through the use of printmaking. Having this slick paint will add an a three-dimensional component to their projects.
