This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
It's becoming more and more apparent that knowing Spanish isn't just a plus these days, it's an essential!
A large percentage of the students I teach speak Spanish as their first language.
Many of their friends are working hard to learn Spanish so that they can communicate with each other in a second language. The rest of my students are well aware that the Spanish speaking population is on the rise in Baltimore City, and they would do well to keep up with the growing population. That being said, it can still be a struggle to engage my students in their foreign language lessons each day.
My Project
I know that my middle school students love fashion, and are eager to find any excuse possible to make alterations to their uniform. I'm hoping to combine fashion and Spanish. This proposal requests t-shirts and fabric paint so that my students can write their favorite Spanish phrases across their new Spanish class "uniforms."
My students need t-shirts, fabric markers, and glitter fabric paint to create new uniforms for Spanish class.
I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get my students invested in learning a foreign language. I know this project is far from traditional, but I also know that my students will fall for the whole artistic process - and will learn some Spanish while they're at it!
