Ms. Tyree from Kansas City MO is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need tablets for classroom use. We will use our tablets during our small group instruction time as well as some whole group teaching.

My school services low-income urban families. We are a title 1 school where most students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. We provide many students with a snack pack on Fridays (food that helps the families over the weekends). Many of my students are not able to afford the basic school supplies needed in the classroom and do not have access to very much technology outside of school. Our families go through homelessness and basic survival crises every day that technology is usually not worked with nor deemed important at home.
My kindergarten students are always so excited to learn and explore different topics but many times I am not able to allow them to explore on their own as much as I would like because I do not have the technology resources to accommodate each student.
Most of my students enter kindergarten below a preschool level and without being able to use technology such as tablets to allow them to interact with educational apps, it becomes an even more challenging task to get them caught up to grade level.
These tablets will open up the world of learning immensely for my students! We will be able to incorporate more games and fun apps into our daily classroom learning routine. The use of this tablet will engage the students more and allow them to explore topics and games on their own... learn at their own pace! Many of the popular educational apps for children assess the students needs first off and tailor the game/activity to their level. It is offering them differentiated instruction without them knowing.
Many of my students are not reading and performing at grade level when they enter kindergarten and often get discouraged to push themselves once they realize they are not like other students in the class.
By having tablets, the students will be able to engage in games and activities without the worry of their table neighbor knowing what level they are on or the type of skill they are working on.
