Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There is a New York City Department of Parks Recreation Center located in the park directly across the street from our school building. I have encouraged my students to join their swim team for years. I finally had several who agreed to sign up but then Covid hit and the recreation center cancelled all activities. They reopened this year and activities have resumed. I am again encouraging my students to participate in the programs.
These swim trunks, swimsuits, rash guards, and sunscreen will give my students sun protection during all their outdoor swim events.
Swimming is a life skill and even if they do not become swim champions, they should at least have a certain comfort level in the water. New York City is, after all, a coastal city.
